COCKTAIL KICKOFF

Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 2/27/23 – The Dinah Legends party weekend will kick off its 2023 festivities on Friday, March 31stat the cocktail kickoff party at a gorgeous private home in Old Las Palmas. This classy event under the stars boasts an open bar, delicious passed hors d'oeuvres supplied by the tasty 849, and valet parking for all the guests. Top-notch lesbian talent will take the stage and promises to present a real jaw-dropping show! Emcee and host Jennifer Corday will present an all-girl 3-piece band with bassist Jen Paro (Charlie’s Angeles, PRISS) and drummer percussionist Vicci Stewart (Jane Doe Band, Sean Wiggins). The girls will present your favorite 70s songs, including Corday’s rendition of “I Am Woman,” to capture the style of 1972, when the Dinah Shore golf tournament first began. A jazz duo will open the night, starring saxophonist Carol Chaikin (toured U.S., Europe, Japan, and Brazil and recorded numerous albums released on Gold Castle Records and Ecstasy Records) and renowned guitarist Beth Marlis, (performed and toured with Helen Reddy, Barry Manilow, Cyndi Lauper and Palm Springs’ own Sweet Baby J’ai (California Jazz and Blues Museum Hall of Famer). There will also be a presentation of the first inaugural Dinah Legend award, going to one of the first promoters of the Dinah Shore parties in the early 80s. “Started originally as a safe place especially for closeted lesbians and pro golfers, the event grew. For the next seven years the private parties attracted up to 3,000 queer women gathering at banquet facilities and airplane hangars.” We can’t wait to introduce you to this true Dinah Legend! Saturday, we get sporty with some friendly athletic competition. If you haven’t heard, softball’s not the only lesbo game in town anymore—pickleball is the latest lez craze! The Dinah Legends Pickleball Tournament takes place on Saturday, April 1st (no foolin’), run by pro-lesbian tourney director Mary Barsaleau. It comprises two slots, rotating partners, which allow participants to enter by themselves and switch doubles partners each round. The other slot is played with your partner; participants enter with their partners and play against other teams. Don't worry about getting creamed by the competition, as players will only compete against those with similar skill sets. Each player will receive a free Dinah Legends pickleball gift. Saturday night is the Main Event, Dinah Rocks! The Melissa Etheridge Experience+ Corday. The concert features singer-guitarist Jennifer Corday as Melissa performing all of her greatest hits like "Come to My Window," "I'm The Only One," "Like The Way I Do," and more. Concertgoers will be enthralled by Corday's ability to encapsulate Melissa's essence with her guitar skills, vocal range, and attention to detail. Corday will also perform some of her award-winning original songs and her renditions of your favorite cover songs. From The Carpenters to Frankie Valle and The Eagles, to Brandi Carlile, Adele and Rihanna, to rockers Joan Jett, Journey, and AC/DC, Corday does it all. The event will take place at The Cascade Lounge @ Agua Caliente, which offers state-of-the-art sound and lighting with pristine acoustics, clear sight lines, and plush seating.
